Diego Simeone, Atleti In Extension Talks

Oct 30, 2023 1:03 PM

Diego Simeone is in talks with Atletico Madrid on a contract extension.

Simeone's current deal expires in June 2024 and he would like to remain with the club.

The duration of a new contract is expected to be either two or three years, or two with the option of a third, if certain targets are met.

Simeone took charge of Atletico in December 2011 and has transformed the club into one of the most consistent sides in Europe.

Simeone received various offers from Saudi Arabia in the summer, but ESPN reported that his priority was to stay in Madrid.

West Ham Could Make Another Bid For Harry Maguire

Oct 13, 2023 2:52 PM

West Ham could make another bid for Harry Maguire of Manchester United in January.

Speaking earlier this week at St George's Park, Maguire said he did not turn down a move to London Stadium.

"The actual opportunity to go to West Ham, it wasn't agreed really between both clubs and myself," he said.

"It wasn't just my chance to say, 'Yes, I'm going.' It wasn't agreed between both clubs so the actual opportunity wasn't there because we didn't get far enough down the line with it."

David Moyes remains a firm admirer of Maguire.

Kalvin Phillips Considering Exit From Manchester City

Oct 13, 2023 2:50 PM

Kalvin Phillips is considering leaving Manchester City in January.

Phillips is losing faith that he will ever be a regular at City, particularly after being overlooked for Premier League games against Wolves and Arsenal while Rodriwas suspended.

City bought Phillips from Leeds in 2022 for $52.5 million.

Phillips is desperate to keep his place in the England squad ahead of Euro 2024 in Germany next summer.

Birmingham City has hired Wayne Rooney as manager on a three-and-a-half year contract.

Rooney replaces John Eustace, who was fired on Monday. Rooney left DC United last weekend.

Sevilla Hires Diego Alonso As Manager

Oct 10, 2023 12:43 PM

Sevilla has hired Diego Alonso as manager.

The former Atletico Madrid player had been without a job since stepping down as coach of Uruguay in December after the country's failure to progress past the group stages of the 2022 World Cup.

Alonso joined Inter Miami ahead of the club's inaugural season in 2019 but results were mixed and he left by mutual consent in January 2021.

Oct 10, 2023 11:12 AM

Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from professional soccer at the age of 32.

Hazard was one of the world's best players during his time with Chelsea, but dealt with injury issues with Real Madrid.

"You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time," Hazard wrote in an Instagram post.

"After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer. I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world.

"During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates -- thank you to everyone for these great times. I will miss you all."

Jadon Sancho's Tenure With United Could Already Be Over

Oct 9, 2023 11:21 AM

Jadon Sancho's career with Manchester United could be running out as he has still not apologized for publicly claiming Erik ten Hag lied about the reasons he was dropped ahead of their 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Sept. 3.

Ten Hag has not completely closed the door on the possibility that Sancho could be reintegrated into the squad but there is acceptance around the club that an apology received now would not have the same impact as it would have previously.

Sancho remains on an individual training program at United's Carrington training base and has little interaction with his senior teammates.

Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for $89 million.
